Pure merino wool blanket or throw

This is a new traditional woven "Maragata Blanket" made with 100% merino wool.

This merino wool blanket was made in León (NW Spain) following our design, all white with primary colours stripes and added a brown wool stripe as well. This is a thick blanket with hand knotted fringe, lots of hours are spent in a blanket.

Textile craft in León (Spain) goes back to the XVII century, when you could find up to 80 textile artisans in the village until the XIX century, when there was a deep textile crisis in Spain. The maragato crafters had to mechanize their production to be able to compete with the rest of the world. By 1858, maragato blankets where among the most appreciated blankets in Europe and weavers in this very small area still use the traditional wool combing technique they used back then known as “hollow-fibre”, which means that in the fibre there is trapped air that offers natural insulation resulting in extremely warm blankets.

There are only three maragato loomers left as you read this and they still promise these blankets will hold a hundred years of constant wear.
