Handmade ceramic oval serving platter made in Spain
Handmade ceramic oval serving platter made in Spain
This is a handmade ceramic serving platter handmade in Almería (south of Spain).
Luis created this minimalistic and simple shape using local clay and painted it with traditional oxides from the area, cobalt blue and granada green all forming an aloe vera shape - endemic to Almería.
All these pieces are handmade, slight shape and slip-coating differences are present in these pieces, making each one unique.
These are 100% safe for food and were made using local materials only, great center piece or serving platter for the upcoming festivities.
Who made this? What's its history?
Almeria is the driest region in Europe and home to the only desert climate on the continent, the Tabernas Desert which borders with the Mediterranean Sea. This creates an amazing contrast and landscape that is not only worth seeing and visiting but also knowing in depth, actually 3/4 of my family came from this area. Although poor in resources, Almeria has a fantastic clay and stone and in the past had a lot of pottery villages.
Luis comes from a potter family living in a village that had up to 60 potters but nowadays only Luis' pottery is working, he actually quit his job when his brothers retired to continue with the family and village legacy.
